The fourth edition of the Barcelona New Economy Week (THEY BUILT) expects to exceed last year’s 12,000 attendees and will add the verticals of Health and ‘Proptech’ to those of Sustainability, Mobility, Digital Industry and Talent. These are the developments that the special delegate of the State in the Barcelona Free Zone Consortium explained at a press conference this Wednesday (CZFB), Pere Navarroand the general director, Blanca Sorigué.
The meeting will be held between October 2 and 5 in the DFactory building of the CZFB, and Sorigué explained that this Wednesday the event already has more than 7,000 registered. The general director has highlighted that, in addition to the six verticals, there will be the BNEW Experience, which aims for attendees to network in the afternoons around events related to art, gastronomy or culture.
“We want to get attendees to do business and stay at DFactory for at least six hours. We are encouraging them to stay all day,” he added. Sorigué explained that the forecasts happen because, this year, half of the attendees attend the meeting in personoy the other half follow him telematic formcompared to 30% and 70% last year.
Furthermore, he predicted that in the 2024 edition, the percentages will be reversed and seven out of ten attendees will be in person. The general director added that in-person attendance is being promoted “a lot”, since she has defined it as essential, although she recalled that 30% of the attendees are international.

Navarro explained that this year they carried out the First Observatory of the New Economy, a survey among those attending the congress “in order to probe” their interests and concerns. The survey has revealed that 77.5% of the startups surveyed plan to add workers to their workforce, and that 21.5% will make more than five hires.
On the other hand, 58.8% of companies will invest 100,000 euros over the next year to adapt to the new economy and 12.9% plan to exceed one million euros in investment.
