BNP has collected more than 20 crores of relief goods and cash for the flood affected people in the eastern districts of the country. The team will spend it on post-flood rehabilitation activities besides distributing it to the affected people.

On Friday (September 20), BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain informed this information.

He said, from last August 25 till today (Friday), we have collected more than 20 crore cash financial and relief assistance. Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Comilla South, Comilla North, Khagrachari, Habiganj and Moulvibazar, a part of Chittagong, were the affected areas. Later some upazilas of Chandpur were affected by floods.

This member of the BNP Standing Committee said that our primary activity was to rescue the people affected by the flood. Later, the local leaders of party and organ organizations of the party’s district, upazila and municipality did the work of providing food to the people. BNP is not in power, still the party leaders have been and will continue to be with the people out of responsibility towards the people.

Dr. Zahid Hossain said, apart from the BNP family, ordinary people, housewives, rickshaw pullers, ordinary workers have also come forward with relief assistance to us. We have kept track of every penny, giving receipts to those who have given relief aid.

He said, many people wanted to pay a lot of money, many people did not receive the money. I forgot the money of three people, we were unaware. We have returned that 30 lakh rupees. Morally, we think it is not right to take their money, it should not be taken. That’s why we refunded all those people’s money by pay order. So as we were transparent in relief collection, we are also transparent in relief distribution.

The leader of BNP said that we have a central relief and rehabilitation fund of more than 60 crore rupees for the rehabilitation of this relief. It is currently stored. With that we will manage the rehabilitation works. We are therefore grateful to the countrymen and those who helped with the relief, including the media.

Zahid Hossain said, now the water is going down, disease has started. Some infectious diseases have occurred. Medical camps have been started in the affected areas. Not only are our doctors going, but sufficient quantity of medicine is being provided free of charge. Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Doctors Association of Bangladesh – DAB including the leaders and workers of all levels of the party are cooperating. The condition of agriculture is very bad. All the crops were washed away. Where to get seeds? We have supplied large quantities of paddy seeds from Islampur, Brakshanbaria, Tangail to the affected areas by trucks and farmers are sowing seeds in paddy fields.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, Relief Collection Committee Member Abdus Salam, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Riazul Islam Riju, Kazi Abul Bashar, Rafiqul Islam Bachchu, Taiful Islam Tipu, Munir Hossain, Aminul Haque, were also present in the press conference.
