Like the national elections, the upcoming upazila elections have also been boycotted by the BNP. The party is issuing show cause notices to those leaders who have submitted their nomination papers in the first phase of the upazila parishad elections in defiance of the party decision and have not withdrawn it despite the party decision.
According to party sources, notices have already been sent to various people.
In the show-cause notice sent to the candidates participating in the election, it is said, ‘BNP has boycotted the upazila election as per the decision of the party’s standing committee. He did not withdraw the nomination paper despite repeated requests from the party. You are requested to give reasons for non-revocation within next three days.’
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed this information and said that the leaders who disobeyed the party decision are being mourned. If the reply is not satisfactory party action will be taken against them.
Monday was the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers for the first phase of upazila elections. Elections will be held in 150 upazilas in the first phase on May 8.
According to BNP sources, 38 people from various levels of BNP, including at least 18 office-bearers of the party, have not yet withdrawn their nomination papers. All of them are contesting for the post of chairman.
