Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness is being used as a shield by her party leaders.
He said that the BNP wants the intervention of the United Nations without being legally able to demand the release of Khaleda Zia. Khaleda Zia’s release is a matter of law.
Obaidul Quader said these things during the opening ceremony of the seven-day mountain fruit fair organized by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts at the ‘Sheikh Hasina Chittagong Hill Tract Heritage Conservation and Research Center’ on Saturday (July 6) noon in the capital’s Bailey Road.
Regarding the quota movement, Obaidul Quader said that the government did not set the quota. A case is going on in the court about it.
Regarding Bangladesh’s relations with India and China, he said that India is Bangladesh’s political friend and China is the friend of development. Why not take the opportunity for development?
General Secretary of Awami League said, ‘I have been able to take many advantages because of the good relations between India and Bangladesh. India is a political friend of Bangladesh and China is a development friend. China has contributed to many developments in this country.
He said, what have the post-seventy-five political parties achieved with 21 years of hostile relations with India? Because Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi had a good relationship, we got another sea equal to Bangladesh. I solved the enclave problem because the relationship was good.
If relations are good, problems can be resolved through dialogue, Obaidul Quader said, mentioning that Sheikh Hasina has been able to take many benefits from India, including the Ganga Treaty. Those who talk big have forgotten about Ganga. Never came back empty-handed before, never came back yet.
Bangladesh has a partnership with China, the bridge minister said, why don’t we take help? We will take help from wherever we need help for the development of my country. We will not give any reply to the comments of many people who are angry about Metrorail, Padma Setu, Expressway.
He said Bangladesh has changed in the last 16 years. Along with that change, the hill region has also changed. Now the three hill districts are much improved in road communication, together 42 bridges have been inaugurated in Khagrachari. Now the border road is being built. All problems will be solved if Sheikh Hasina is there.
The road transport minister said that higher quality fruits than many foreign fruits are produced in the three hill districts. Pineapple was once the main fruit. But, now many types of fruits are produced. Once upon a time the fruits would rot due to lack of communication system. Today, due to the development of communication system, the delicious fruits of your mountains come to Dhaka. Better quality fruits than Singapore are produced in our hilly areas.
This mountain fruit fair will continue till 12th July (Friday). The fair will be open for everyone from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm every day.
