The BNP has condemned the 64 leaders who disobeyed the party decision and wanted to participate in the first phase of the Upazila Parishad polls to be held on May 8. The letter asked the leaders to respond within 48 hours.
According to BNP sources, out of 64 mourned leaders, 24 took the post of chairman and 21 took the post of vice chairman, and 19 took the post of female vice chairman. 5 of them have been expelled from the party. A decision will be taken by discussing the party forum after receiving the reply to the letter of concern from the rest. However, according to the preliminary decision, all those holding party positions seeking to participate in the elections will be expelled.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed signed the letter of condolence said that on April 15, the BNP Standing Committee meeting decided to boycott the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections. As the leader of BNP, you did not withdraw your candidature in the upazila election in defiance of the party decision. Contesting elections is a total violation of party discipline and gross betrayal of the party. Therefore, you have been instructed to submit a written reply to the Acting Chairman of the party at Nayapaltan central office within 48 hours showing proper reasons as to why organizational action will not be taken against you as per the constitution of the party for participating in the election by ignoring the decision of the party.
Incidentally, the President of Jaldhaka Upazila BNP under Nilphamari District Fahmid Faisal Chowdhury, Vice President of Birol Upazila BNP of Dinajpur District Sadek Ali, Joint Convenor of Chikondandi Union BNP Number 12 of Chittagong North District Rashed Ali Mahmud, Member Zahurul Chowdhury on the specific charges of participating in the upcoming Jaldhaka Municipal Elections in defiance of the party decision. Member of Eidgaon Upazila BNP and general secretary of Eidgaon Upazila Fishermen’s Party of Alam and Cox’s Bazar district. Hannan Miah has been expelled from all positions including primary membership of BNP.
