BNP sought the EU’s help to bring the smuggled money

BNP has sought the cooperation of the European Union (EU) in bringing back the money smuggled abroad during the Awami League government. In this regard, the acting EU ambassador to Bangladesh, Bernad Spanier, assured to cooperate on behalf of the EU.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said this after a meeting with Bernd Spanier at BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, capital on Monday (August 19).

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led the delegation in the meeting. BNP organizational secretary and International Affairs Committee member Shama Obaid was also present.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been accused of embezzling large sums of money from the Center for the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. BNP wants an investigation in this regard or not? In response to such a question, Amir Khosru said, the investigation will definitely be done. It has also been discussed. There have been talks about bringing back the $100 billion that is being said to have been smuggled through various means. We suggest that everyone should work on this. They are willing to cooperate in this matter.

The leader of BNP said about the topic of discussion, where is Bangladesh going in the future after the change in Bangladesh. Everything is being discussed economically and politically. How and where the European Union can support. Bangladesh has fallen into a hole, which aspects should be supported to get out of it, it was discussed.

The economy of Bangladesh was discussed. Good governance, what is the remedy for institutions that have been destroyed, how to bring them back to the right place, what cooperation they can have, what kind of cooperation they can provide in the field of economy – these were discussed. Especially since a large part of the export income comes from their country – how to sustain it, what can they do there. Amir Khosru also said that what reforms can be done in the financial sector in the agreement with them for the economic development of Bangladesh, so that we can stand in the right place financially again – basically they have been discussed.

When asked whether there was a discussion about the elections, he said, there is no chance to return to democracy without elections. They have also been discussed.
