A 44-year-old man, identified as Uerbio Teixeira Santana, disappeared this Sunday afternoon (3), after the boat he was piloting hit a rock and he fell into the Sucuriú River, in Paraíso das Águas, a city 277 kilometers from Campo Grande.
According to initial information, Uerbio was fishing with a 51-year-old friend in a region known as “flooded” and when they were returning the accident happened at the place called the linhão. The two men were thrown overboard.
The victim’s friend, who has not been named, said he saw Uerbio sinking twice and screaming for help, but was unable to help him, as the vests were inside the vessel.
He claimed he managed to get back to the boat and even looked for his friend, but he couldn’t find it. The man then asked for help 3 kilometers from the scene and some fishermen helped in the search.
Teams from the Fire Department and the Civil and Military Police were at the scene, but so far the victim has not been found. Divers from Campo Grande should resume their search for the fisherman on Monday morning (4).
