It is a spectacular operation to say the least. A boat, with 15 people inside, ran aground on the sand, in Gironde, this Monday around 9:30 p.m., according to information from France Blue. The people were trapped by the falling tide in the Arcachon basin and had to call for help at sea.

They were then 0.9 nautical miles from the Banc d’Arguin, according to local radio. That is the equivalent of just over 1.5 km. On board, nine adults in their thirties and six children, between one and seven years old.

Helicopter

To help them, the Air Force. Just that. A Caracal helicopter came to evacuate eight people at 10:23 p.m. to Cazaux air base, leaving a rescuer on board the boat. The other passengers were then able to be brought back to this same base around 11:30 p.m.

The 15 people were therefore airlifted, a complex but necessary operation when access for an intervention is difficult, which is often the case at sea. But good news: in this story, no one was injured.
