Boating: companies are desperately looking for employees in Charente-Maritime!

by time news

Laminators, fitters, carpenters, electricians or plumbers: these trades are worth gold in Charente-Maritime! The nautical sector is recruiting with a vengeance as the 50th edition of the Grand Pavois begins this Tuesday in La Rochelle, a boat show founded in 1973 where more than 80,000 visitors are expected by Sunday.

According to Pôle emploi, the annual needs are estimated at 500 jobs in La Rochelle country. “And more than 600 if we include Rochefort. This dynamism is specific to New Aquitaine. No other employment area has so many players in the boating industry,” confirms Daniel Dartigolles, territorial director of Pôle emploi in Charente-Maritime. In fact, the agglomeration of La Rochelle claims the greatest concentration of professionals and nautical companies in France: “more than 300”, according to this community.

Competition with the aeronautical industry

While order books are benefiting from a lasting upturn, some companies are struggling to find enough qualified labour. Especially since the nautical sector is “in direct competition” with the aeronautical (Airbus in Rochefort) and rail (Alstom in Aytré) industries, underlines Daniel Dartigolles. To meet the expectations of the nautical sector, Pôle emploi launched a mobile agency last March to move closer to long-term job seekers.

Baptized “boating trains and recruits near you”, this action plan consists of presenting the professions in tension, training and offering immersions in companies before training. Nearly 70 people have joined the nautical sector since the launch of this mobile agency, assures Daniel Dartigolles. Shipyards rely on in-house training. This is the case of the Fountaine-Pajot group, which is preparing to open its own school for nautical trades to train its future employees and fill its order book.
