Bodø center blocked off: – Flying roof tiles throughout the city

by time news

On Thursday morning, the wind is approaching hurricane force in Bodø, with gusts of up to 29.2 meters per second.

The police stated at 9 o’clock that they had requested assistance from the Civil Defense to handle the situation.

– There are a lot of roof tiles and other loose objects flying around throughout Bodø, operations manager Yngvar Fredriksen in the Nordland police district told Dagbladet.

In an update a short time later, the police stated that the entire center of Bodø has been cordoned off.

– There is a danger to life and health now by moving outdoors. We ask the population to respect the restrictions that have been set, as well as take the call to stay indoors, the police wrote on X/Twitter.

Nordland newspaper reports that the police have sent out an emergency alert to people in Bodø about this.

Shortly after 08.30 the police received a report that several windows at the top of the Radisson hotel, adjacent to the hotel’s bar, had been blown away by the wind.

– It is a completely ordinary window that has broken. We chose to call the police to ensure the safety of our guests and the general public, says hotel director Jeppe Jørgensen to Dagbladet.

He states that no one was injured in connection with the incident.

The area around the hotel was quickly cordoned off, because the window ended up on a eaves on the floor below, with the risk of it flying away with the wind.

– There is a danger that they will be sucked out and end up on street level, Fredriksen said after the incident.

As of now, it is not possible to download them. The hope is that the windows will stay up until the storm subsides.
