LAKE NORMAN, N.C. — Tragedy struck in Lake Norman as the body of a missing boater has been discovered. The search operation began on Saturday evening near marker D9, prompting officials to issue a public safety alert and request that the public steer clear of the area, while also keeping an eye out for any rescue boats.
Units from Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue, in collaboration with Sherills Ford-Terrell Fire and Rescue, worked tirelessly throughout Sunday to comb the vicinity of marker D5 on Lake Norman. Officials reiterated their call for the public, especially fellow boaters, to avoid the area in order to prevent creating unnecessary waves that could hinder the search efforts.
Sunday evening brought some devastating news as authorities confirmed the discovery of the missing boater’s body during the afternoon. However, the identity of the deceased has not been disclosed at this time.
