Three Dead in Bogotá Crash following Armed Robbery and High-Speed Chase

A multiple-vehicle collision in western Bogotá on Thursday, January 15, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two elderly adults, and left two alleged thieves injured. The incident unfolded after a brazen armed robbery and subsequent high-speed pursuit, culminating in a devastating crash at the intersection of 68th Avenue and 72nd Street.

Armed Robbery Preceded Fatal Crash

Prior to the accident, two suspects allegedly robbed a man leaving a restaurant, taking two rings, a chain, and a cell phone at gunpoint with a 38-caliber firearm. The suspects immediately fled the scene, speeding along Highway 68C in the Engativá district while being pursued by the victim in a truck. this initiated a high-speed chase that would soon have tragic consequences.

Collision and Fatalities

The chase ended tragically when the suspects, riding a Bajaj Dominar D 400 MT motorcycle (2023 model, plate LUT60G), collided with a private vehicle carrying two elderly adults. The impact completely destroyed the motorcycle. “The motorbike collided with the back of the car and was destroyed,” a source reported. The two occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the motorcycle also died from his injuries after being transported to a medical center. The passenger, identified as Roberto camargo Galvis, 47, sustained severe craniocerebral trauma and was admitted to the San José Infantil clinic for treatment.

History of Traffic Violations

Investigations revealed the motorcycle involved in the crash had a history of traffic violations. Two outstanding summonses were pending payment at the time of the accident.The first, issued on December 19, 2024, in La Mesa, Cundinamarca, was for operating a vehicle with an expired driver’s license. The second, issued on january 15, 2026 – the day of the crash – was for driving without a valid license. the vehicle was immobilized at the scene until removed by an authorized individual. The total value of the outstanding fines amounts to 1,604,575 pesos. The motorcycle is registered in the municipality of Funza, Cundinamarca.

This tragic incident underscores the dangers of reckless driving and the devastating consequences of criminal activity.
