Did Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) really meet Brian May and Roger Taylor at their previous band Smile gig in 1970? As easy to imagine, the formation process of Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody (tonight on Rai1 at 21:25, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Freddie Mercury) was a bit fictional – and simplified -: Mercury in fact met for the first time the other musicians back in school, when he was still at Ealing Art College, thanks to a mutual friend, Tim Staffell (bass and voice of Smile at the time). When Staffell left the band as a singer, the legendary singer was enlisted.
