Three-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 84 in Boise Injures Two

Idaho State Police are investigating a three-vehicle collision that occurred on January 6, 2026, at 2:51 p.m. on Interstate 84 near Boise, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The incident took place at milepost 53 in Ada County, causing significant disruption to westbound traffic.

Collision Details

According to the Idaho State Police, a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas, operated by a 25-year-old woman from Boise, was traveling westbound on I84 when it collided with the rear of a 2021 International semi-truck. The semi, driven by a 37-year-old man from Caldwell, had begun to decelerate due to a disabled motorist ahead. Following the initial impact, the Volkswagen then struck a 2002 Chevrolet S Truck, driven by a 25-year-old man from Meridian, also heading westbound.

The Chevrolet came to a stop within the lanes of the westbound on-ramp at milepost 53, while the Volkswagen ended up on the right shoulder of the highway.

Injuries and Response

The drivers of both the Chevrolet and the Volkswagen sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance for medical treatment. Fortunately, the drivers of the semi-truck and the Chevrolet were confirmed to have been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene. Idaho State Police were assisted by the Ada County Fire Department and Ada County Paramedics in providing aid and managing the situation.

Traffic Impact

The far-right lane of westbound Interstate 84 was blocked for approximately one hour and twenty minutes as crews worked to clear the scene and assist those involved. This blockage caused delays for commuters during the afternoon rush hour.

The Idaho State Police investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collision.
