After three years of work, the first residents were able to move in from November 2022. The new Boissy-Saint-Léger social residence, recently inaugurated, brings smiles to its inhabitants. The elders of the Migrant Workers’ Home (FTM) remember a building that was “difficult to live with, obsolete and unsuitable”.

Meet today’s needs

In the entrance of the brand new residence, a peaceful mother and her disabled daughter are talking quietly. They have been living there since it opened last November. Since their arrival in France in 2014, they chained temporary accommodation, often unsanitary and not adapted to the disability of his daughter. At the residence, her PMR (Person with Reduced Mobility) accommodation of 30 m2 is finally adapted to the needs of her daughter.

They smile again: “Today, it’s better, we’re doing. And it is thanks to this new accommodation”. Added to this is a not insignificant advantage: “calm” and “proximity to all amenities. In the heart of the ZAC de la Charmeraie, there is indeed a supermarket and a pharmacy. “A relief” for the mother who now hopes to find a stable job.

Only 500 m from the Boissy-Saint-Léger RER A station, the site is connected to the public transport network. A boon for residents. A young Tibetan couple, baby in their arms, recently arrived in France underlined: “Unlike our previous small room, here we feel much better. It is a beautiful, peaceful, clean and secure space”.

For Myriam Berghout, Ile-de-France regional director of Adoma, “we seek to best meet the needs of tenants in terms of security and comfort, which are no longer those of 50 years ago. The old FTM, built in 1974, has been obsolete for several years. Multicultural and multigenerational mixing is also a key point of the project. “Young, less young, families, singles, with or without a job: everyone is welcome… As long as there is room! »

A symbolic appointment

With the agreement of the inhabitants, the municipality of Boissy-Saint-Léger and Adoma have therefore baptized the residence in the name of the American activist Claudette Colvin, “a symbol of perseverance”, notes Emmanuel Ballu, general manager of Adoma. Thus, it is 211 new dwellings, from T1 to T1bis, which “will make it possible to give people in difficulty dignified living conditions”. And to prove the evolution between the home of migrant workers and the new residence, make way for the virtual visit. “With this innovative device, we really realize the progress”, comments Myriam Berghout.

Adoma’s renovation plan aims to transform these typical post-war hostels for isolated foreign workers with 7 m2 rooms and unenviable common areas into healthy and pleasant individual accommodation for everyone. Previously reserved for men, “other audiences are now arriving, especially women with children. It was no longer up to standard in terms of comfort and safety, which is why the home was demolished and rebuilt, in accordance with the Safeguard and Enhancement Plan (PSMV).

The subsidiary still has 28 homes to renovate in Ile-de-France, including 2 ongoing projects in Val-de-Marne. It is therefore 3,500 refurbished housing units that will see the light of day in the department. All the social centers in the Ile-de-France should be transformed into social housing by 2030.
