It’s official, the Central African Republic (CAR) has become “the first country in Africa to adopt bitcoin as a reference currency”, welcomes The Journal of Bangui. This digital currency is now legal throughout the Central African Republic, in the same way as the CFA franc. The president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, promulgated this Wednesday, April 27, 2022 the law giving it legal tender. This, adopted unanimously by the deputies on April 21, is part of a national plan to “economic recovery and peacebuilding”, precise ActuCameroun.
This decision puts CAR on the map of countries “the boldest and most visionary in the world”, affirms the press release of the Central African presidency, reproduced in extenso by ActuCameroun. According to Bangui Newspaper, the president specified that this currency will have “an unlimited power of issue in all its transactions and in any capacity, carried out by natural or legal persons, public or private”. In other words, bitcoin will be a real currency of exchange and transaction in the country.
