Santa Cruz (Bolivia), September 20 (Sputnik).- The Bolivian government has called for a dialogue with former President Evo Morales (2006-2019) to halt the march dubbed “to save Bolivia,” aimed at stopping the mobilization towards the city of La Paz.
“We invite Evo Morales tomorrow, Friday, September 20, 2024, at 18:00, at the Ministry of Education to engage in a dialogue, so that he stops leading not only part of the membership of our political instrument MAS-IPSP but the entire Bolivian people into a confrontation among sisters and brothers,” stated the Minister of the Presidency, Marianela Prada, early Friday morning.
This Friday marks the fourth day of mobilization by social organizations aligned with Morales, who are protesting against the difficult economic situation in Bolivia due to the shortage of fuels, dollars, and the rise in prices of basic goods.
The pressure tactic, which began on September 17 and is set to reach La Paz on the 23rd, was labeled “coupist” by the Foreign Minister, Celinda Sosa, who denounced on Tuesday night the brewing of a new coup against Arce, allegedly driven by Morales, with the aim of positioning himself as a candidate in the 2025 elections.
Arce was Minister of Economy under Morales for most of his 14 years in government, but now both are at odds over the presidential candidacy of MAS for the general elections of 2025. (Sputnik)
