An evening was held at the International Mugham Center “India – Azerbaijan: fusion of cultures“, organized with the support of the Indian Embassy in Azerbaijan, the press service of the Center told Day.Az.
At the opening, the Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan Sridharan Madhusudhanan spoke about the cultural and friendly ties of Azerbaijan with India, noting that he loves Azerbaijani folk music and cuisine. It was told about the first visit of the famous Indian actor Raj Kapoor to Baku in 1956, when the Indian film festival was held. Famous Indian film figures were invited to participate in the festival in Baku. The delegation, in addition to Raj Kapoor and his wife, famous actress Nargis Dutt, included officials, directors and cameramen.
The diplomat noted that Azerbaijan is a country in which Indian filmmakers show great interest. Over the past three years, 28 Bollywood films have been shot in Azerbaijan. At the same time, there is growth in the tourism sector. Azerbaijan is among the most popular routes in India. The ambassador noted that having visited the regions of Azerbaijan, he really fell in love with the nature of these places. He also said that he was glad to get to know the culture of our people closely.
Director of the International Mugham Center, Honored Artist Sahib Pashazade noted that the fusion of cultures is an important point. “Culture is the passport of every people. By promoting their culture, peoples demonstrate their national spiritual values to the whole world. Music has no boundaries and no language,” he said.
Sahib Pashazadeh also spoke about the art of world famous sitar player Ravi Shankar, calling him a promoter of Indian music throughout the world. At the same time, he noted that people in Azerbaijan have always had great sympathy and love for Indian films and music.
The guests were presented with a concert program in which favorite samples of music and dance, popular in India and Azerbaijan, were performed.
