Two supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro, accused of trying to blow up a truck near the Brasilia airport on Christmas Eve, were sentenced in first instance this Thursday (11) by the Federal District Court.
George Washington Sousa received a sentence of nine years and four months in prison and Alan Rodrigues five years and four months. Both are in jail, but they can appeal.
They are accused of endangering life and property by placing dynamite or a similar substance and starting a fire in a fuel tank. George Washington was also convicted of illegally carrying a firearm and an explosive device.
The sentence, by Judge Osvaldo Tovani, establishes that the attack was premeditated and that both confessed.
The decision recalls the testimony of George Washington in which he says that there were plans to install explosives in at least two places to “spread panic” that would lead to “the declaration of a state of siege in the country”, which could “cause the intervention of the Armed Forces.
