On the morning of this Thursday (8), the Federal Police carried out search and arrest warrants against former ministers of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and soldiers involved in the alleged coup attempt to keep the former president in power. One of the targets was Bolsonaro himself, who handed over his passport to the PF.
In the decision authorizing the operation, Judge Alexandre de Moraes (Supreme Court) affirms that the former president had access and requested modifications to the document, the so-called “minute of the coup.”
Bolsonaro would have received from former advisor Filipe Martins, who was arrested, and from the lawyer Amauri Feres Saad a decree document for a coup d’état, with the imprisonment of authorities such as Moraes himself and the magistrate Gilmar Mendes, in addition to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco.
The messages exchanged between Colonel Marcelo Câmara, detained in the operation, and Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid in December 2022 indicate, according to the PF, that the two were monitoring the steps of Magistrate Alexandre de Moraes.
The plan, according to investigations, was to arrest him. The messages also show that at least six generals of the Armed Forces discussed with the former president the issuance of a coup decree against the election of Lula (PT).
Braga Netto, former Minister of Defense, would have called the then Army commander, Marco Antônio Freire Gomes, “shit” for not participating in the coup attempt.
The national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, was arrested in flagrante delicto for illegal possession of weapons. He was one of the targets of the operation. PL is the party of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
