The Brazilian politician received standing ovations during the conference, for example when he spoke about relaxing gun control rules. The multi-day event will conclude with a speech by former US President Donald Trump. The two former leaders, who both served a single term, are expected to meet.
The 67-year-old Bolsonaro, also known as the Tropical Trump, unexpectedly traveled to the United States at the end of December. He did so a few days before being succeeded by Lula. Bolsonaro said in an interview with The Wall Street Journalist last month that he will return to Brazil in March to lead the opposition. Whether that is still the plan is unknown.
