Former President Jair Bolsonaro
Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, and other individuals related to the investigation into the illegal sale of jewelry were summoned to give simultaneous testimony by the Federal Police.
The testimonies are scheduled for August 31, in order to avoid possible coordination of answers between the deponents.
In addition to the Bolsonaros, Fabio Wajngarten and Frederick Wassef, lawyers for the former president, Marcelo Câmara, special advisor, Mauro Cid and his father Mauro César Lourena Cid, and Osmar Crivellati, advisor, were also called.
The operation, called “Operation Luke 12:2”, focuses on suspicions of an attempt to sell gifts received from foreign delegations during the government.
Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former aide, is a central figure in the investigation. He reportedly removed a set of jewelry given to Jair Bolsonaro and later sold a white gold Rolex watch. A deposit of US$68,000 (about R$332,000) is linked to the sale.
The investigation not only focuses on the circumstances surrounding the sale of the jewelry and watch, but also examines whether transaction amounts were passed on to Jair Bolsonaro or Michelle Bolsonaro.
Mauro Cid’s defense claims that Bolsonaro asked for his intervention to solve a problem with a Rolex watch and, after the sale, Cid handed the money to one of the members of the presidential couple.
