The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) estimates that the former president’s expenses could reach R$ 2 million if he is convicted in the ongoing legal proceedings. The lawyers reported on the survey to CNN Brasil.

To help with payments, the defense is considering making a kitty online
. According to Bolsonaro’s advisory, in recent years he has lost 95% of the lawsuits filed against the former president.

The most recent conviction took place last week, when the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) ordered him to pay compensation of R$50,000 for attacks on journalists.

The author of the action is the SJSP (Union of Professional Journalists in the State of São Paulo) which accuses Bolsonaro of “systematic moral harassment” against the entire professional category, by “affronting the image and honor of journalists in an indistinct manner”.

The former president already has at least 25 ongoing investigations, in addition to being the target of actions in the Electoral Justice and in the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Recently, federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), Bolsonaro’s ally, raised BRL 168,000 in an online crowdfunding campaign to pay for court convictions. According to her, in the month of April alone, the lawsuits totaled R$ 54,000.

She became the target of a popular action in the Federal District Court for accomplishing this feat.

After becoming aware of the R$ 168,000, the parliamentarian said on social media that she will donate the remaining money “to some institution” or save it for future actions.
