BOLZANO. On the cold Friday night, a patrol from the Radiomobile Section of the Carabinieri Company of Bolzano intervened on the Langer bridge where a 26-year-old was attempting to commit suicide by throwing herself into the waters of the Isarco river.
The girl raised the alarm and called 112 announcing her intention to jump from the bridge.
While waiting for the patrol to arrive, the operator on duty at the Bolzano Carabinieri operations center began a dialogue aimed at entertaining and distracting the girl and attempting to make her stop.
A few moments later, the soldiers who arrived at the pedestrian-cycle bridge began a dialogue with the 26-year-old, who was sitting on the railing of the bridge with her back turned to the river, ready to throw herself into the icy waters of the river. After a few minutes of dialogue, the soldiers managed to grab her and take her to safety.
Health personnel from 118, who intervened together with the carabinieri, subsequently transported the young woman to San Maurizio in Bolzano for the necessary medical treatment.
The timely intervention of the patrol in coordination with the station operator, as well as the uncommon humanity, empathy and capacity for dialogue of the soldiers, made it possible to save the woman who, following repeated family quarrels over time, was truly intending to put an end to it once and for all. She was convinced that suicide is not the best solution to resolve family friction.
