BOLZANO. The work of the group that aims to enhance the river areas of Bolzano, with a focus on water protection, recreational spaces and ecological protection, has begun.
The project, called “Bolzano river area“, involves numerous stakeholders including the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Municipality of Bolzano, Eurac Research, and the Lungomare Cooperative, with the collaboration of several provincial offices. Willigis Gallmetzerdirector of the Provincial Functional Centre, highlighted the work carried out between 2010 and 2020 on the Talvera and Isarco rivers, which improved the transitability of fish and reduced the risks associated with river fluctuations.
Aquatic ecologist Peter Hecher emphasized the importance of the new hydroelectric power plant in Sant’Antonio in maintaining the constant level of the Talvera stream.
Klaus Unterwegerdirector of the Civil Protection Agency, announced that the project will fund studies on local ecology and recreation, as well as flood protection plans. The costs, estimated at 165,000 euros, will be covered by the environmental funds of the San Antonio hydroelectric plant for the environmental redevelopment and sustainable development of the affected area. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
