BOLZANO. What a celebration, car-free Sunday. People from Bolzano and Bolzano happy to be able to take up space on the streets, pedaling under the sun towards Piazza Tribunal with the Municipality’s great initiative dedicated to recycling, reuse and sport in company. Between the twister, the skill fishing, the solidarity book market of the civic library and the lunch prepared by the Alpine troops, Recycle confirmed itself as an initiative suitable for everyone. Suitable for Edoardo, with mother Gaia and father Majcol happy about the open air event (“It’s a strong point of the city”), as well as Bruno Foraboschi, born in 1948, among the 75 registered in the 10 kilometer race Vivicittà promoted by Uisp . Sundays in the open air with mum and dad are enjoyed by Giulia, 7 years old, playing a game of checkers with Luna, and by Arianna Lombardi, confident on her mountain bike. “Amused? Yes. Survived? Yes», smiles Attilio Piol, cooling off with a glass of water after running with his friend Ivan Zaro. It’s not the first time for them: their list includes the city race against gender violence, last November 26th.
«For one day, let’s free urban spaces together. Sport unites everyone and brings us together in the world”, says councilor Chiara Rabini from the small stage. The next car-free day will be the Bolzanoinbici, in a few months. According to Chiara Rabini «it is a way to experience spaces in an alternative way, together». There is no shortage of sportier politicians, from former provincial councilor Christian Tommasini to MEP Matteo Gazzini with his wife Katia De Carli. Arno Kompatscher, also a passionate runner, also appears among the volunteers of the associations and families. “It’s a moment to enjoy the city, which once again becomes the place of people, a moment of sociality and health”, comments the president as he goes to place himself at the back of the group of 75 departing for the 10 kilometre. Another 200 are registered for the 4 kilometre, 155 are registered for the hotly contested 500 meter “minirun”.
Meanwhile, the stands of the associations capture the attention of adults and children, including the “games of the past” of the Uisp of Reggio Emilia and the ecological walk of Plastic Free, the handcrafted carpets of Hands Onlus, the Novum cycle workshop, the reuse Seab in via Comini.
Speaking of recycling: «Rip the page», to create art with newspapers, and again the Crumb Hunters, always open to new members. For the more “scientific” types, the Eco Research stand with Massimo Donega, president Lucia Piva and Paola Pomati is a source of information on plastic recycling. Which, as we know, is not all the same. «The plastic we use every day is 50% reusable», explains Donega, «In Bolzano we have the advantage of the waste-to-energy plant, furthermore we achieve a recycling percentage higher than what is required at a national level. The Municipality is going in the right direction. Meetings with schools and with Upad are also important, to inform everyone.” SM
