The explosion occurred in the village of Rugubi on the border between Nasarawa and Benue states in the African country of Nigeria when people were grazing their cattle.
The death toll in the accident has risen to 54 in an area where ethnic and religious clashes are common. A large number of cattle were also killed and many injured. The injured are being treated at the hospital. The death toll is feared to rise further.
The police are actively investigating the incident.
