Security Guard jailed 13 Years for Rape following ‘strikingly Similar’ Prior Incident

A Merseyside security guard has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the rape of a 19-year-old student in Liverpool, with the court hearing the attack mirrored a previous incident where he targeted another woman months earlier.John Callaway, 43, of Shakespeare Close in Everton, was labeled a “very hazardous man” by Judge Louise Brandon after being found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court.

The sentencing comes after a harrowing trial detailing how Callaway exploited a vulnerable student on a night out in March 2023. The victim, who has requested anonymity, was separated from her friends near the junction of Seel Street and Slater Street when Callaway, while on duty responding to security alarms, approached her. CCTV footage revealed he remained with her for approximately 15 minutes before leading her to his van under the guise of offering a ride home. He then drove her to a secluded location where he subjected her to a brutal sexual assault as she drifted in and out of consciousness.
