Recruiting the four members himself, of West Indian origin, Marcia Barrett, Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell, he wrote all the songs, and even sang the vocals on the records. Their hits “Daddy Cool” (1976), “Sunny” (1977), “Ma Baker” (1977), and “Rasputin” (1978) met with great success in Europe.

Behind the Milli Vanilli scandal

In the 1980s, Frank Farian distinguished himself by producing several groups, including the memorable Milli Vanilli, which he launched in 1988. Although promising, the duo remained best known as one of the biggest scandals in the industry. The two singers, Fabrice Morvan and Robert Pilatus, never actually recorded their songs, on which they played playback and which were sung by American voices recruited by Frank Farian. The deception was revealed in 1989, following an incident on stage during a concert.

The producer will subsequently bounce back by continuing to promote artists, such as the eurodance group La Bouche (“Be My Lover”) and the actor and singer Meat Loaf. He left behind numerous successes and has sold around 800 million records worldwide.
