New work 6 years after the movie ‘Parasite’

Director Bong Joon-ho’s (56, photo) new film ‘Mickey 17’, released six years after the film ‘Parasite’ (2019), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, will be released in Korea for the first time in the world on the 28th of next month.
Warner Bros. Korea announced on the 10th, “Director Bong’s Hollywood movie ‘Mickey 17’ will be screened in Korea for the first time on February 28th,” and added, “Actor Robert Pattinson, who played the main character Mickey, is also scheduled to visit Korea on the 20th.” The global release date of ‘Mickey 17’ is scheduled for March 7.
‘Mickey 17’ is a work released by director Bong six years after ‘Parasite’, which won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020. It is based on the 2022 science fiction novel ‘Mickey 7’ by American author Edward Ashton, and tells the story of Mickey, a clone, who is sent to colonize a space planet covered in ice.
The cast is also gorgeous. Pattinson, who became a global star with the movie ‘Twilight’ series and has built up his filmography with ‘Tenet’ and ‘The Batman’, played the lead role. Korean actor Steven Yeun, who won the Emmy Award for Best Actor for last year’s Netflix drama ‘Angry People’, and actor Mark Ruffalo, who was loved as the Hulk in the ‘Avengers’ series, will also appear.
According to Warner Bros. Korea, Director Bong, Pattinson and others plan to screen some videos of ‘Mickey 17’ in Korea on the 20th and then carry out various schedules, including stage greetings. Pattinson, who is visiting Korea for the first time, is said to have adjusted his schedule, saying, “I want to go to Director Bong’s country,” even though he was busy filming his next film.
‘Mickey 17′ has been attracting attention in the United States as it has been considered one of the most anticipated films of the year since last year. The U.S. CNN broadcast mentioned the movie in ’11 Anticipated Movies of 2025’ and introduced, “It appears to be a science fiction comedy, but it deals with dark and heavy topics through cloned humans who take on dangerous missions in outer space.” American pop culture media Variety also selected it as the most anticipated film of the first half of the year, along with ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ashes’, calling it “Director Bong’s new science fiction thriller film.”
