Bonghwa-gun was selected for the 2025 livestock production facility modernization project. Bonghwa-gun announced that Paindumesangol Agricultural Cooperative Corporation was selected as a business operator in the ‘2025 Livestock Product Production Facility Modernization Project Contest’ hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do and secured a total project cost of 300 million won.
This project applied for a public offering to Gyeongbuk Province on August 9, passed the document review, went through an on-site review by an external expert on September 11, and was selected as the final project target by Gyeongbuk Province on November 7.
The livestock product production facility modernization project is a support project to modernize production facilities for livestock product processing companies and meat packaging companies to increase the income of livestock farms by supplying large quantities of products to other cities and provinces using livestock products produced in the province as main raw materials.
The selection criteria is to use livestock products produced within the province for more than 70% of the main raw materials, and to select through a public contest among organizations that enter into contracts with large distributors, other local companies, or online shopping malls to supply products to other cities and provinces.
In addition, this project supports the costs of detailed design, facility equipment, and construction costs required for the construction of a 180㎡ cold storage for ripening after producing baked eggs (smoked eggs), and the financial resources are 9% provincial funds, 21% military expenses, and loans. It is carried out by sharing 20% of the burden and 50% of the burden.
Paindumesangol Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, which was selected as the target of the project, was established in January 2010 in Hwacheon-ri, Bonghwa-eup, and has been producing baked eggs by purchasing fertilized eggs from laying hen farms within the district and province. It produces 300,000 products annually and has annual sales of KRW 200 million. The amount was recorded at 10 million won, but due to the recent lack of cold storage facilities, it was not possible to supply the entire quantity requested by the customer.
Paindumesangol Farming Association Corporation is close to National Highway 36 between Yeongju and Bonghwa, and is located near the Dogon poultry complex, making it easy to supply and demand fertilized eggs. In particular, it has a well-established distribution network with 13 years of smoked egg manufacturing technology know-how, so it is highly recognized by consumers. is a sound distribution and farming cooperative corporation.
Shin Jong-gil, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “By securing the project cost through this Dobi contest, we will expand the cold storage facility to extend the maturation period of smoked eggs and increase the freshness of finished products, thereby stably supplying products to consumers and increasing farm income. “I will do it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bonghwa-gun announced that starting on the 12th, it will purchase public reserve rice and market quarantined rice produced in 2024. The total purchase volume was 2,758 tons, including 2,181 tons of public stockpile rice and 577 tons of market-isolated grain, an increase of 473.6 tons (11,840 bags/40kg) from the previous year.
The purchase price of rice in the public reserve is the national average rice price in the production area during the harvest season (October to December) converted to coarse grain (40 kg). An interim settlement of 40,000 won per bag is paid immediately after purchase, and the final settlement is paid at the end of December.
Park Hyeon-guk, mayor of Bonghwa-gun, said, “We thank the farmers for their hard work in harvesting high-quality rice even in difficult environments such as falling rice prices, and we hope that this purchase of public reserve rice and market-isolated grain will help rice farmers.”
Gyeongbuk Hyanggyo Foundation Bonghwahyanggyo held the 2024 Giro-yeon at the Bonghwa County Community Center on the 12th with the attendance of about 600 people, including local Confucian groups and Hyanggyo members, as well as seniors from 10 towns and villages.
Currently, local Confucian forests are striving to inherit and develop the ideology of respect for the elderly and filial piety, and a feast for the elderly is being held as an event to honor and pray for the health and longevity of the elders in the region.
On this day, starting with a pre-ceremony performance of Korean traditional music, folk songs, and other exciting Korean melodies, the first part of the opening ceremony included the awarding of certificates of appreciation, school-wide greetings, and congratulatory speeches, and the second part of the event provided an opportunity for seniors to enjoy themselves through recreation and music performances.
Bonghwahyanggyo Geum Jangnak, the head teacher of Bonghwahyanggyo, said, “Although the form of Giroyeon has changed, I hope that its meaning and tradition will continue, and Bonghwahyanggyo will continue to make efforts to awaken and spread the importance of traditional ethics such as filial piety for the elderly.”

How does the reliance on local raw materials in the project support sustainability in agriculture?
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Agricultural Expert
Time.news Editor (E): Good day! Today, we have a remarkable development in the agricultural sector to discuss. Bonghwa-gun has been selected for the 2025 Livestock Production Facility Modernization Project. We’re joined by Dr. Lee Min-sook, an expert in agricultural technology and development. Welcome, Dr. Lee!
Dr. Lee Min-sook (L): Thank you for having me! I’m excited to share insights on this significant project.
E: Could you begin by explaining what the 2025 Livestock Production Facility Modernization Project entails and why it’s vital for areas like Bonghwa-gun?
L: Certainly! This project aims to modernize production facilities for livestock processing and meat packaging businesses. By enhancing these facilities, the goal is to increase the income of local livestock farms. Essentially, it allows farms to supply large quantities of quality products to cities and provinces beyond their borders.
E: That makes sense! I understand that the Paindumesangol Agricultural Cooperative Corporation was selected as the business operator. What do you see as the significance of this selection for the region?
L: Paindumesangol’s selection is crucial. They have a strong local presence, being deeply rooted in the community with a workflow designed around utilizing local resources, specifically fertilized eggs. Their established reputation and distribution network will be invaluable in ensuring that the modernization effort is successful and sustainable.
E: Speaking of sustainability, the project requires that over 70% of raw materials must come from local livestock sources. How does this impact both the local economy and the environment?
L: This requirement stimulates the local economy significantly. By sourcing locally, it ensures that farmers in the area can benefit from the increased demand for their products. Environmentally, it promotes a more sustainable approach to production by reducing transportation emissions and supporting local ecosystems.
E: The project also provides financial support for cold storage facilities and other necessary infrastructure. How does this investment affect the production capabilities of businesses like Paindumesangol?
L: The establishment of a 180㎡ cold storage facility is a game changer. It will extend the maturation period for products like smoked eggs, enhancing their quality and freshness. This not only meets customer demands more effectively but also allows Paindumesangol to scale up production without compromising on quality, thus increasing their sales potential.
E: It’s fascinating how such infrastructure can lead to enhanced product quality. As director of the Agricultural Technology Center, Shin Jong-gil mentioned, this is a crucial step towards stable supply chains. What are your thoughts on the importance of stable supply for consumers and farmers alike?
L: Stability is key for both consumers and farmers. For farmers, it means a reliable income stream, allowing them to plan their operations more effectively. For consumers, it translates to consistent access to high-quality products. It fosters trust and strengthens relationships between producers and consumers, bolstering community cohesion.
E: Bonghwa-gun has also announced the purchase of public reserve rice and quarantined rice. How does this initiative complement the livestock project?
L: It’s a holistic approach to agricultural development. By simultaneously supporting livestock production and grain purchasing, Bonghwa-gun is promoting a well-rounded agricultural economy. This ensures that various sectors within agriculture are thriving and interconnected, which benefits the entire community.
E: Such interconnected support seems essential for rural development. As we wrap up, what final thoughts do you have on the future of agricultural projects like this in Korea?
L: I believe we are headed towards a more innovative and sustainable agricultural future. Projects like the one in Bonghwa-gun set a precedent for integrating technology with traditional practices, and if other regions adopt similar models, we could see substantial improvements in not just productivity but also rural livelihoods across Korea.
E: Thank you, Dr. Lee, for sharing your insights today! It’s encouraging to see initiatives that not only modernize agriculture but also uplift local communities.
L: Thank you for having me! I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these projects unfold.
E: We appreciate your time. Stay tuned for more updates on agricultural developments!
