Gutemberg Vera, father of Alembert Vera, president of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), has filed a complaint against Xavier Bonilla ‘Bonil’ due to a cartoon that was published on May 31 in the newspaper El Universo. In this cartoon, Vera maintains that Bonilla “defames the honor” of Alembert and accuses him of a “series of crimes.”
During an interview in Notimundo Estelar, Bonilla mentioned that this action against him is familiar to him, since he experienced similar situations during the Correísmo era. Likewise, he spoke about the “urgency” of this political group to return to power.
The cartoon in question, titled “Chucky 7 Vera, after the Prosecutor”, shows Alembert Vera with claws and being manipulated by ropes that support his back, feet and hands. In addition, on his back he carries a flash memory that says “chucky seven”, referring to the well-known case in which former president Rafael Correa sued the newspaper El Universo for 80 million dollars due to an opinion column written by Emilio Palacio. .
Bonil explained that his caricature reflects the interests behind Alembert’s attempt to dismiss prosecutor Diana Salazar, and pointed to Rafael Correa as the main party concerned. He also mentioned how the former president, through social networks, vigorously defends Vera and is unworthy of accusations, such as the one made by Esteban Guarderas, who stated that “he won by cheating.”
