Wellington: Booker Prize-winning New Zealand author Carrie Haum has died. He was 74 years old. She died Monday at her home in Weymouth, New Zealand. His first novel, The Bone People, won the House Award in 1985.
He is the first person from New Zealand to win the award.
Carey was born in 1947. After the death of his father at the age of 11, Kerry dropped out of high school and turned to a job as a tobacco picker. The main works are Beat and On the Shadow Side, The Silence Between, Lost Possessions and Strands.
