Booking reported a first quarter of the year with significant growth in reservations, which represented 274 million room nights, ahead of Expedia, which reached 94.5 million.

While Booking made 38% more reservations than last year, Expedia made 23% more compared to its same period in 2022.

Booking achieved the highest number of nights booked through alternative accommodation, with short-term rentals, vacation rentals and similar accommodation standing out.

“We saw a strong start to the year with room nights and gross bookings in the first quarter reaching our highest quarterly levels and both metrics exceeding our previous expectations,” said Booking CEO Glenn Fogel.

as reported REPORTUR.usfor two of the large online travel sales companies such as Expedia and Booking, ad spending represented 52% and 35% of their revenue respectively during the year 2022. (Expedia dedicates half of its revenue to ads and Booking a third).

With the increase in the percentage of spending on marketing, Expedia intends to attract more customers, but also retain them through loyalty, with discounts, direct marketing and offering a performance brand, among other actions.
