The original title – ‘Doppelgänger’, a word which in German can be translated precisely with double, evil twin – is significant given that – explains the author – this book “shows what it feels like to see one’s identity dissolve in the digital ether, an experience that many of us will probably live very soon in the age of AI It is above all an attempt to come to terms with the madness of the present, with the wave of conspiracy and with the emergence of strange cross-party alliances in a scenario in which no one is what they seem anymore.
