Vaccination Rate for Booster Shot Among Elderly Reaches 23.3 Percent

BILTHOVEN (ANP) – The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has reported that almost a quarter of all people aged 60 and over have received the booster shot against the coronavirus. The vaccination rate in this age group has risen to 23.3 percent, with the highest vaccination rate observed among those born between 1934 and 1943, where about half of the group has been vaccinated.

More than 1.25 million people have received the additional vaccination, aimed at boosting defense against the coronavirus. The number of people vaccinated last week reached over 303,000, similar to the previous week.

The vaccination round for the booster shot began at the start of October, prioritizing individuals aged 60 and over. However, other eligible groups can now also schedule a vaccination appointment, including people aged 18 to 59 with Down syndrome or a serious immune disorder, healthcare workers, pregnant women, and individuals who have vulnerable family members.

In total, about 7.5 million people are eligible for the booster shot, and the Ministry of Health expects approximately 4 million people to receive the vaccination based on previous rounds. The vaccination campaign is set to continue until the end of December.
