Bora Wind & Temperature Drop Today | Weather Update

(2025-12-30 07:50:00) — A pocket of cold air is expected to bring lower temperatures to Eastern Europe and surrounding regions, including areas near Trieste, Italy, through Thursday.

A temporary drop in temperature is forecast, with stable weather expected today and moderate to strong Bora winds in the morning.

  • A cold air mass is moving across Eastern Europe, impacting temperatures in the region.
  • Minimum temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees Celsius are expected, with maximums of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius.
  • Moderate Bora winds are forecast, potentially strong in Trieste.
  • Conditions are expected to improve from Thursday with warmer, wetter westerly winds.

The current atmospheric structure indicates that a deep pocket of cold air at all altitudes will affect Eastern Europe and the surrounding area, leading to a temporary temperature decrease, particularly at higher elevations, according to a report from Osmer.

Today’s forecast predicts generally stable weather with little cloud cover, though more substantial low clouds are possible in the early morning. Moderate Bora winds are expected to blow in the morning, and may become strong in Trieste. Minimum temperatures are forecast to range from 3 to 6 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures will be between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius.

Offshore winds will be from the east-northeast at 10 to 15 knots (approximately 19–28 km/h) in the morning and afternoon, with gusts potentially reaching 25–30 knots (about 46–56 km/h) in the afternoon, Osmer reported.

Why It Matters

The arrival of this cold air mass is typical for this time of year in Eastern Europe, but the strength of the Bora winds, particularly around Trieste, could create hazardous conditions for maritime activities and potentially impact local transportation. The Bora is a cold, dry northeasterly wind that can be particularly strong along the Adriatic coast. While the forecast does not indicate extreme conditions, residents and visitors should be aware of the potential for gusty winds and cooler temperatures.

“Moderate Bora will blow in the morning, even strong in Trieste,” according to the report from Osmer.

From Thursday, the atmospheric pattern is expected to shift, bringing less cold and progressively wetter westerly currents, signaling a return to more typical winter weather conditions for the region.
