New Delhi: The Australian team is strengthening its preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with each passing day. In this sequence, Australian coach Andrew McDonald said that he will not make any changes in the top-6 batsmen. These six batsmen will remain the same who were in the series against New Zealand last season. However, he also admitted that there can definitely be a change in the batting order of the team. The five-Test series between India and Australia is starting in Australia from November 22, which is a part of the World Test Championship.
Will Travis Head open?
After David Warner’s retirement, Steve Smith has been opening for Australia, but he has not been able to leave his mark on that position. McDonald says, ‘We are constantly keeping an eye on this, but have not yet reached any conclusion. We have talked about the summer season in Sydney and are planning what can be done. If we make any change in Smith’s position, then someone will have to go up (to open). We have seen how Cameron Green has been successful playing at the fourth position. So this makes it difficult to take a decision.’ After Warner’s retirement, Smith has opened in four matches where he has been able to score only 171 runs at an average of 28.50. While batting in the middle order, Smith has scored 7670 runs at an average of 57.23.
Leon outsmarted the ‘Big Three’Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon says that the performance of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will be worth watching in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. Lyon has also warned that the visiting team has a great line-up apart from these big players, which will make things very challenging for the host team. He said, ‘Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will probably be three very big players. But still you have Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja. I don’t know who the other five players will be.’
