Completing this mission unlocks access to the new content.
Starting Fresh: Creating a New Character
If you’d prefer to jump straight into the “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned” DLC without revisiting earlier portions of the game, you have the option to create a new character. This is a streamlined approach that immediately places you at level 13, ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
When creating a new character, select the “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned” option. A cutscene will then play, and you’ll find yourself immediately in the Whispering Glacier, the DLC’s new zone. This accelerated start comes with a few perks: you’ll begin with 12 skill points, four weapons, a grenade, and a repkit to get you started. For Existing Vault Hunters: Starting the Questline
For those continuing with an existing character, a level 13 or higher is recommended to ensure a smoother experience. Head to Zadra’s Backup Plan, located in the Dissected Plateau area. Here, you’ll find the starting point for the DLC’s questline: “An Invitation.”
Interact with the alien pillar within Zadra’s Backup Plan to trigger a cutscene. This scene reveals Moxxi receiving a mysterious letter, setting the stage for your journey. Following the cutscene, you’ll be transported to the Whispering Glacier, the central location for the “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned” DLC. Upon arrival, you’ll receive the quest “On Icebound Shores Abandoned,” officially kicking off your exploration of the new area and its challenges.
