President Gabriel Boric presented this Friday the new Fire Prevention, Mitigation and Control Action Plan 2024 – 2025.

“Last year we made a very significant budget increase at Conaf. This year we consolidated that budget and, in addition, this year we are making a very significant budget increase in Senapred. We are going to allocate a historic amount of more than $156 billion to combat forest fires,” he reported.

The President commented on the new initiatives that raise the standards for the selection of personnel for the Fire Management Program at the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf). “Last year’s experience with the fire in Viña del Mar is something that we cannot look to the side,” Indian.

Along with this, he highlighted “the work within Conaf itself and the PDI to be able to find those responsible for this tremendous, tremendous tragedy.”

The 2024-2025 plan on fires has the protocol signed by Senapred and Conaf on October 7, which establishes a coordination framework for the management of forest fires, from monitoring to emergency response.

In addition, it incorporates new technologies for the early detection of accidents through collaboration with research centers and private entities, which will allow the installation of detection cameras and the use of artificial intelligence to alert about the presence of smoke or fire sources.

Likewise, it includes two projects that are being processed in the Senate. The bill that regulates the prevention of forest and rural fires and the one that creates the National Forest Service.
