Power Outages Prompt
In response to ongoing power outages affecting numerous customers in Chile, President Gabriel Boric took action against the company responsible for supply. During a meeting at La Moneda Palace, the president instructed the Minister of Energy to review the concession of the Enel company and explore all available sanctions.
Heavy rains in central Chile left hundreds of thousands without power for several days, causing widespread disruption. President Boric expressed concern and determination to address the situation, emphasizing the need to evaluate all available options to ensure reliable energy supply.
The storm caused four deaths, damaged over 1,800 homes, and severely impacted basic services. Enel, the private company serving 33 municipalities in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, has faced multiple fines for previous service disruptions.
