The leftist president of Chile, Gabriel Boric Fontshowed once again his ambiguity when talking about the crisis in Cuba.
On this occasion, the Chilean president considered that the island is currently hungry, but at the same time he asked for the lifting of the so-called “blockade” of the United States.
Gabriel Boric‘s statements were during a meeting he held with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, at the La Moneda Palace, in Santiago, Chile.
In that sense, the Chilean president, who on other occasions has limited himself to criticizing the Castro regime, despite the fact that he has been firm with his position against the dictatorships of Venezuela and Nicaragua, considered that Cuba “must move towards democratization within of the same country”, evidencing his ambiguity on the issue and avoiding blaming the failed communist system for all the ills that Cubans currently suffer.

“There is also the serious situation in Cuba, where people are going hungry and it is necessary to lift the unilateral blockade and advance the democratization of the country itself. And by the way, the unilateral blockade by the United States,” said the Chilean president.
In his statements with the UN Secretary Boric, he took the opportunity to highlight the importance of “multilateralism”, arguing that “it is the only way to guarantee and work for peace in the world, and a development that is fair and sustainable.”
