Boris Becker
The wedding was themed “Dolce Vita”
Boris Becker’s wife Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro reveals how the location in Portofino was chosen and the story behind her dress.
Boris Becker (56) is a married man again: On Saturday, the former tennis professional married risk analyst Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro (33) in the Italian fishing village of Portofino. Vogue has now published pictures of the wedding, which presumably took place under strict secrecy.
Thus, the 85 invited guests did not know until the last moment where the ceremony would take place. They were ultimately driven “blind” in Porsche shuttles to the wedding location. As Bild reports, guests were even required to tape over their phone cameras to prevent any information from leaking out.
The bride was more open in an interview with Vogue. She explained two days before the big day why the couple chose the former fishing village in Northern Italy as the wedding location. Initially, her first thought was her hometown of Rome. But: “We wanted a place that feels like home, that is part of our life together, that we know and enjoy. A place that reminds both of us of us.” The options included Venice, Lake Como, and Portofino.
During a visit to Portofino, the decision was quickly made in February of this year: “When we arrived there and entered the location, I immediately had a vision of how our wedding would look. We looked at each other and both knew that this would be the place where we would celebrate our big day.”
The wedding dress was inspired by René Magritte
The couple did not have a wedding planner. “I organized everything myself. Everything was designed by me, with support from Boris and our assistant.” The theme for the wedding was “Dolce Vita.” Her wedding dress – long, snow-white, off-the-shoulder, and form-fitting – is made of layered chiffon and features a very long veil. It is a collaboration with Andrea Ravieli, who was inspired by René Magritte’s painting “The Lovers.” The image symbolizes “trust, even without seeing each other,” explains de Carvalho Monteiro.
The wedding photos show that there were additional outfits: For the bachelorette party the day before, de Carvalho Monteiro wore a black-and-white polka dot dress. For the wedding night party, she wore a white ensemble with a white blazer, matching her husband. The wedding cake was a four-tier cream cake adorned with roses; the long table was also decorated with numerous roses.
For her, marriage means “committing to each other, taking care of each other, trusting each other, and sticking together,” explained de Carvalho Monteiro. Even the difficult recent years – Becker’s conviction and prison sentence – seem to have bonded the couple, as she states in the interview: “To be honest, I think we sealed our marriage a few years ago when we had to cope with certain things together.”
De Carvalho Monteiro on marriage: “It’s hard work”
Even from the perspective of a risk analyst, de Carvalho Monteiro explains her view on marriage: “You have to invest in it and work on it every day. It’s a decision you make every day. You can’t just give up because it gets hard. It’s hard work, and I have understood that. I think we both have understood it.”
For Boris Becker, this is already the third marriage: He was married to Barbara Becker (57) from 1993 to 2001, with whom he has two children, Noah (30) and Elias Becker (25). In 2009, he married his then-girlfriend Lilly Becker (48), from whom he has his third son Amadeus (14). With Russian-British model Angela Ermakova (56), Boris Becker also has a daughter Anna Ermakova (24). Since 2020, Becker has been in a relationship with Italian Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro. At the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, he announced their engagement.
