Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson believes that former US President Donald Trump has the courage to end the conflict in Ukraine if he wins the November elections. Johnson says that the necessary conditions for this are a sharp increase in military support for Kyiv and the lifting of restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons.

“Having spoken to Trump this week, I am more convinced than ever that he has the strength and courage to get things done, to save Ukraine, to bring peace and to stop the spread of conflicts,” Johnson said in his column for the Daily Mail, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

The former prime minister believes that the world is also threatened by wars in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. “Whatever Republicans may have said about Ukraine before, I believe that Trump understands the reality of the situation: a defeat for Ukraine would be a massive defeat for America as well,” Johnson said.

While admitting he was not familiar with the former US president’s plans, Johnson noted that, if Trump returned to the White House, he could “make a deal that is beneficial to the world and that will ultimately convince [президента России Владимира] Putin is that Ukraine in the future is a free, sovereign and independent European country” with the opportunity to become a member of the EU and NATO. From the point of view of the British politician, this requires intensifying the assistance provided to Kyiv and lifting restrictions so that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can push the Russian Armed Forces “at least to the borders [середины февраля] 2022.” Johnson also believes that the West may make certain concessions to Russia, but does not name them.

“The main thing is that if Trump is in the White House, then there is a real prospect of global rapprochement with Russia, as well as with Putin. [Перспектива] a return to the times when Russia was a respected partner [в составе] “Big Eight” and even [партнером] NATO,” Johnson writes. “But there is only one way to achieve this – by force.”

From the ex-Prime Minister’s point of view, Ukraine’s actual victory in the conflict with the Russian Federation, “paradoxically”, could become the basis for building “new and much better relations between the West and Russia”. According to Johnson, such a reformatting of relations between the parties would benefit both the US and the entire world.
