Four years ago, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan resigned from their positions as working royals. Politician Boris Johnson tried to change their minds at the time.
Boris Johnson is said to have been asked in January 2020 to stop Prince Harry from stepping down from his royal duties and to prevent him from moving to the USA. The former British Prime Minister now reveals this in his memoirs, as “Daily Mail” reports.
In the book with the English title “Unleashed,” which will be published on October 22, 2024, Johnson writes: He was asked to persuade Harry to stay in a “man-to-man” conversation . He himself didn’t believe that such a conversation could bear fruit. The Brit is said to describe the mission as a “ridiculous affair”. It was “completely hopeless”.
The meeting between the former prime minister and the son of King Charles III. is said to have taken place in January 2020, a few weeks after Johnson’s election victory, on the sidelines of an investment summit at the London Docklands. The two are said to have spoken privately for around 20 minutes.
According to an acquaintance of Boris Johnson, Harry was not prepared to change his mind. “At that point he could no longer be persuaded. Boris managed to push through Brexit, but he couldn’t prevent Megxit,” said the insider.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan announced in spring 2020 that they would be withdrawing from their royal duties. The couple moved to North America and now lives in California with their two children. One of the main reasons was the way the British tabloid media treated Meghan. Boris Johnson was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from July 2019 to September 2022.
