Boryeong City was found to have achieved excellent results in central government and provincial-level evaluations in various fields of municipal administration, including administration, tourism, health and welfare, and construction, in 2024.
According to the city, in 2024, a total of 41 commendations were received, including 15 commendations from central administrative agencies, 18 commendations from South Chungcheong Province, and 8 other commendations.
Among the central administrative agency awards, it received a presidential commendation as an excellent agency for promoting local finances in the first half of 2024 organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, an excellent rating for the regional extinction response fund, and an excellent agency for revitalizing local finance, as well as an excellent agency for island development.
In addition, it has been awarded in various fields such as designation as a carbon-neutral energy opportunity development zone by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, grand prize at the Korea Brand Awards, excellence in local government health promotion project by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, excellence in regional planning for fostering oriental medicine, and commendation from the Minister for meritorious public notice work (land) by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Among the Chungcheongnam-do Province commendations, it received the Best Active Administration Best Practice in 2024, Best Contribution to Infectious Disease Control, Excellence in Suicide Prevention Project, Excellent Organization for Food Poisoning Prevention and Management, and Excellent Organization for Childbirth Policy and Maternal and Child Health Project. In particular, in the field of local taxation, excellent results were achieved, including being the best at the conference and excellent in the overall evaluation.
Other awards include JoongAng Ilbo’s Korea Creative Management 2024 Autonomous Administrative Management Award, Chosun Ilbo’s 2024 Korea’s Influential CEO Award, Korea Tourism Policy Research Society’s 2nd Korea Tourism Policy Awards, and Korea Public Brand Agency’s 2nd Prize. He was recognized for his administrative capabilities by winning the grand prize at the Korea Public Brand Awards.

The data released this time are Boryeong City’s senior citizen statistics and the 30th Boryeong City statistical yearbook, and are expected to be used as important data for the welfare of the elderly and the development of city-wide policies, respectively.
Boryeong City’s senior citizen statistics, prepared as of December 31, 2023, are data released three times this year starting from 2020, and consist of 86 items in five areas, including population/households, economy, jobs/pension, welfare, and health.
Looking at key indicators, as of the end of last year, the number of elderly people aged 65 or older was 28,525, which corresponds to 29.8% of the total population and is significantly higher than the national average (19.0%) and the Chungcheongnam-do average (21.3%).
In addition, in the health field, patients with high blood pressure were the most at 12,692, and the per capita medical cost for patients with chronic kidney disease was the highest at 7,499,000 won. In cancer treatment, prostate cancer patients accounted for the largest number at 378, and the per capita treatment cost for lung cancer patients was 8,907,000 won.
The 30th Boryeong City Statistical Yearbook contains major indicators for the past five years and consists of 223 items in 17 fields, including population, housing, tourism, and education.
In particular, as of the end of 2023, the population of Boryeong City, including foreigners, was 100,023, accounting for 4.5% of the total population of South Chungcheong Province. The number of households is 49,709, and the average number of cars owned per household is 1.13, showing a steady increase in vehicle ownership.
