This competition is the first in Asia to be officially recognized by the J70 World Sailing Federation, and will be the last of the marine mega events to be held in Boryeong this summer.

The competition will begin with athlete registration on the 15th, followed by an opening ceremony with a long-distance race on the 16th, and various yacht races and experience events will continue until the 18th.

Approximately 500 people are expected to attend the opening ceremony, including Boryeong Mayor Kim Dong-il, South Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Tae-heum, Korea Yachting Association President Park Beom-gyu, and South Chungcheong Province Yachting Association President Jeong Hae-cheon.

This competition will be divided into medium and small J70 cruiser yachts (open, amateur, long-distance race) and dinghy yachts (youth), and a total of 175 players from 11 countries are expected to participate.

In particular, in the J70 keelboat event, eight countries including Korea, China, Japan, India, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam will compete in fierce national competitions and long-distance races.

The newly established J70 amateur division this year is expected to present a more advanced form with the goal of popularizing marine leisure sports.

Additionally, youth athletes from 7 countries including Korea, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia will compete in the youth dinghy yacht Optimist event.

As for experiential events, a yacht experience class is operated that can be enjoyed by applying in advance on the Chungnam Yacht Association website. Programs that families can enjoy together, such as family yacht, kayak, and sea survival swimming, are provided free of charge.

Mayor Kim Dong-il said, “The Boryeong Cup International Yacht Race is an important event that enhances our city’s status as a global marine leisure tourism hub,” adding, “I ask for the interest and participation of many citizens and visitors so that this race can be successfully concluded.”

This competition is hosted by the Chungnam Yacht Association and organized by the Boryeong Cup International Yacht Competition Organizing Committee, and many organizations and companies, including Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, Korea Yacht Association, and Seodae Construction Co., Ltd., are participating in sponsorship.
