Reaching results equal to those recorded in 2019, despite the fact that automobile production fell by 7.5%, is good news. This is precisely what the automotive division of Bosch Spain, Mobility Solutions, has achieved, which contributed to the turnover of the national subsidiary reached 2,400 million euros, 9.9% more than in 2020.

This represented a share of 5.8% of its turnover in Europe, in which Germany continues to be its main market, with 15.7 billion euros. In an environment of production stoppages “this result is especially positive”.

This was made clear by the president of the Spanish and Portuguese branches of the largest manufacturer of components in the world, Javier Gonzalez Couplewhich also pointed out that the rest of the business areas in Spain —except Industrial Technology— reached their 2019 numbers.

In addition, Consumer Goods and Energy and Building Technologies showed “double-digit percentage” growth, boosted by the good performance of household appliances and electric heat pumps, respectively.

Bosch closed the year with 8,000 workers on the workforce —the deadline to reach an agreement at the Lliça d’Amunt plant ends on June 30—, investments of 55 million euros and a 14% reduction in CO2 emissions.

In fact, it is on this last point that the company is focusing its efforts, since all its factories are carbon neutral since 2021 and “they need to go less and less to purchase credits.”

Bosch is one of the leaders in the transformation to zero-emission mobility, with orders for electric vehicle components —mainly electric motors, of which there are already two million units— that already exceed 10,000 million euros.

By 2022, the planned investments in electromobility by the German power plant are estimated to exceed 500 million euros, and by 2025, it expects its turnover in this business area to reach 5,000 million. In 2030, thanks to the construction of 30 new gigafactories in Europe, the market volume will be more than 50,000 million.

Bosch, in addition, has allied itself with the Volkswagen Group —with which it participates within the Perte VEC— to design and build the battery plants. The most recent of these, the Skoda battery assembly center in Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic), with an annual capacity of 250,000 units.

But the company’s efforts are not limited exclusively to battery electrification. Green hydrogen is one of the technologies that they have identified with the greatest potential, and they intend to produce fuel cells for heavy transport starting in 2023. Their first customers will be in China, but in 2024 they will already be marketed in Europe.

Interest in the Semiconductor Perte

Two days ago, the Government gave the green light to the Semiconductor Perte, with an endowment of 12,250 million euros until 2027. Although it is too early to know the details —the funds will not be approved until the addendum to the Recovery Plan, in the second half of the year—, González Pareja estimates that “it could be interesting”, since they have a car sensor plant in Madrid and a semiconductor design center, where 15 engineers work in Valencia.
