Bose and Thom Browne Launch $950 Cashmere QuietComfort Ultra Headphones

Priced at $950, a new second-generation Bose and Thom Browne collaboration pairs noise-canceling QuietComfort Ultra headphones with cashmere upholstery and signature red, white, and blue detailing, hitting the market following a star-studded launch event at The Lotos Club.

Cashmere Cushioning and a $950 Price Tag

The collaboration takes Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra headphones and wraps them in high-end winter fabrics and signature branding. The design draws inspiration from a gray suit, using clean lines across the earcups and carrying case.

The headphones feature an adjustable headband and removable ear cushions completely covered in cashmere, evoking the cozy feel of a pair of earmuffs. Four white stripes sit along the exterior of the earcups, while a grosgrain loop with white, red, and blue detailing tops off the design. Inside the earcups, a striped pattern mimics the Bemberg lining found in traditional Thom Browne suiting, visible when the headphones hang flat around the wearer’s neck.

Tech specs remain unchanged from standard Bose models. The headphones deliver top-tier noise cancellation alongside Immersive Audio. Battery life holds up to 30 hours, dropping to 23 hours when using Immersive Audio. Users can switch between Quiet, Aware, and Cinema modes using the Bose app.

The release carries a steep price hike. Preorders opened on Bose and Thom Browne’s websites, with an official on-sale date set for September 28.

Athletes, Artists, and a Launch Night at The Lotos Club

The partnership debuted earlier this year during a pre-Super Bowl runway show produced in collaboration with GQ. By late September, the high-fashion audio gear landed in the hands of prominent athletes and cultural figures, including Junia Lin, Isan Elba, Jack Cameron Kay, Ian Bradley, Tom Sachs, and New York Knicks shooting guard Jordan Clarkson.

“I always listen to music before a game to set the tone, I listen to a lot of Future and Frank Sinatra: ‘My Way,’ ‘Fly Me to the Moon,’ ‘New York, New York.’ Usually right before I go on the court is when I listen to Frank Sinatra, like I’m performing.”

The official launch celebration took place at The Lotos Club against a backdrop of chandeliers, parquet floors, and coffered ceilings. The evening concluded with a live performance by the Danish punk rock group Iceage. Outfitted in Thom Browne suits, the band rattled the venue’s dining rooms and atrium with a high-energy set that tested the seams of their tailoring.

Thom Browne’s Growing Tech Footprint

This release marks another chapter in the designer’s quiet expansion into consumer electronics. In 2020, the brand launched an innovative foldable Samsung mobile phone, which has since become a coveted collector’s item from past collaborations.

Insiders note that the designer continuously looks ahead despite his established tailoring traditions. While the Samsung collaboration proved fleeting, analysts predict the luxury headphones may maintain greater staying power among collectors and audiophiles.

Two Decades of Unconventional Luxury

The current hardware release reflects a design philosophy nearly twenty years in the making. Reviewing Thom Browne’s inaugural 2005 battle of the bands show at Bergdorf Goodman, critic Tim Blanks highlighted a three-piece suit in pale lemon brocade, describing it as odd–but so confident and luxurious that it became an object of desire.

That same instinct drives the new audio gear. By applying cashmere, grosgrain loops, and collegiate stripes to modern noise-canceling hardware without relying on overt logo branding, the designer continues an approach that made his American menswear label a lasting force.
