I would like to express my sincere gratitude⁤ to the ‌people of Gunmin and Assemblyman Moon Geum-ju.

Boseong County‘s Yulpo Port has been selected as a preliminary target port for ⁣the designation⁢ of a⁤ new national fishing port. Boseong‌ County announced on the 8th that the Ministry of⁢ Oceans ⁢and Fisheries had selected Yulpo Port‍ as a preliminary target port for the new national fishing port designation.

For several years, the military has advocated for ‌the designation ‍of Yulpo Port as a national fishing port, recognizing its⁢ potential to become a sustainable asset for Korea. However, in⁤ 2019, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries only shortlisted two ports nationwide for ⁤a feasibility study, and Yulpo Port ranked third.

Despite its current‌ status as a local ⁣fishing port, Yulpo Port has‌ evolved beyond its traditional role. It has become a‌ base for fisheries production and a central port for marine‍ tourism,‌ fostering⁢ economic and cultural growth‍ in ‌the fishing village ‌area. Infrastructure improvements,⁢ such as breakwater⁢ facilities and the⁤ Hoecheon Fisheries Wholesale Market, have supported fishing activities and increased fishermen’s ‍income.

Yulpo Port’s potential was‍ recognized in 2024 when it was selected ⁣by the Ministry of Oceans and ⁤Fisheries. The port scored highly in terms of fishing boat usage, port visits, population⁤ density, and ‍tourism‍ infrastructure, making ⁤it‌ ideal for ⁤national⁣ fishing port development.

The project will involve an investment of 44.5 billion won (100% national budget) for the construction of a new fishing gear storage facility, breakwater expansion, temperature improvements, and anchorage installation.

Yulpo Port’s transformation into a multi-functional tourism complex fishing port is a⁤ collaborative effort involving⁤ neighboring cities and counties. This initiative is spearheaded ‌by⁣ Assemblywoman Moon Geum-ju and⁤ Boseong County ⁤Mayor Kim Cheol-woo.

Boseong County Governor Kim Cheol-woo⁣ expressed his pride⁣ in Yulpo⁣ Port’s selection, stating that it will be a catalyst for ‍regional economic growth and development in the southern ‌coastal area.

The Ministry of Oceans ‍and Fisheries plans to conduct a feasibility study and develop a comprehensive plan for the official designation of Yulpo Port as‌ a national fishing port in‌ the ‌second ⁣half of this year, gathering input from local residents.
